Opening the
doors for collaboration with civil society groups, the
Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) will initiate
a conference entitled “Making Microfinance Work for
Sustainable Agriculture” scheduled end of September this
year.
This conference is directed to promote and demonstrate
viability of microfinance in agriculture, identify
challenges, opportunities, and gaps in agriculture
microfinance, and explore areas of collaboration, focus,
and priorities.
Around 25-30 participants from the non-government
organization, government agencies and finance
institutions are expected to attend this meeting.
The program shall include dialogue with microfinance
wholesalers, sharing experiences among agribusiness
microfinance implementers, discussion on potentials of
microfinance in agriculture and conduct of a workshop
session to cover sustaining mechanisms for maximum
impact.
Outputs shall include formulation of a “road map”
instituting mechanisms involving participation of key
stakeholders in the promotion of agri-microfinance, and
increased awareness on DBP’s programs.
Major components of the said road map shall include
initiatives on research, policy, capability building,
promotion and advocacy and resource mobilization.
